Becoming a drummer is not easy . It takes a lot of practice and patience to get to to the expert level while drumming. Here are some of the tips for achieving the expertise in drums. Taking of practice what you need is a studio or a secluded place where you can practice drumming. However given that most of us live in apartments with close by neighbors that can be a problem. The other issue is that if you work and come home only at night then practicing at night can be a tough thing as that means all your neighbors will be sleeping and you may end up disturbing them. No a happy scenario at all.

My tip here is to get some special equipment which will silence the sound and that means usually means getting drum pad silencers. These silencers will help restrict that big sound that a drum makes but on the other hand you will never even feel that you are not hitting the actual drums with drumsticks. The silencers will still make some sound which is only so much that you can hear and behind the closed doors it will be sufficient for you to practice. That means is that while neighbors are sleeping you can merrily pound on these drums at night.

The second option is to play a Rock Band game which is available on the wii as well which will help you get the expertise. The rock band game is special in a way that there are legions of fans of this game who use this to practice the drumming. Yes it is not a true way to learn the drums but if you have time only at night and you do not to earn the ire of your neighbors then this is as close as possible for you to learn drums.

Once you gain some confidence then you can start by enrolling at a nearby studio and or join a local band and have practice together.

1. Drum Key Drill Bit - This tool is a must for any custom drum builder who is used to using only a drum key to assemble or disassemble their drum sets. This makes putting heads on and taking off heads about 10 times faster. I have built many drums before I finally found one of these and I can honestly say this may be my favorite drum building tool discovery in the past 5 years. (I know they have been available for longer than that, but I never knew I needed one so badly!)

2. Right Angle Drill - This also makes assembling drums extremely fast. However when you're screwing in any of your hardware screws (lugs, bass drum spurs, tom mounting hardware) you'll need to use a low force setting on the drill so it doesn't strip your screws. The reason I recommend a right angle drill is to be able to get inside those smaller diameter shells like 12? and smaller. With a traditional drill you won't be able to fit it inside the shell to screw the lugs screws in!

3. J-Roller - If you are going to apply a wrap to a drum, this tool will help you get any unwanted air bubbles out from in between the shell and the wrap. This really is a must for applying wrap correctly.

4. Combo Square - Ah the combo square, probably my most used drum-making tool. I use this to mark the layout for all of the hardware that goes on to each drum. I also use it to mark stripe layout for paint, and for wrap. I don't know that I could build a drum without one of these.

Although there are different types of sets, most people have found that the drum sets that offer the most freedom are those that have the most pieces with them. With each extra piece, there are a few extra sounds that can be used to create different styles of music.

For those who are interested in buying sets that have multiple pieces, here are some explanations of what you should expect from the different set pieces.

Bass drum - The bass is sometimes referred to as the kick since it is played by stepping on a pedal that then beats the head. This sits on the floor just in front of the drummer. It is usually the most prevalent sound in any set. While most of these come with heads on both sides, many drummers prefer to remove the head from the backside and place an object like a heavy sweatshirt or a pillow inside of it in order to muffle the sound. If the sound is not muffled, it could resonate too loudly and detract from the other music being played. Toms - Toms are usually small, circular and elevated to about the shoulder level of the drummer when he is sitting. Some drummers prefer to use these with bottom heads, but usually they are removed. Each tom is slightly different in size and shape in order to produce varying sounds when struck. These drums make a deep, round tone. The toms placed above the floor are referred to as "mounted toms." Sets can also be purchased that have toms that stand on their own feet. These are called "floor toms." Snare drum - In most sets, the snare is elevated off of the floor and rests between the knees of the drummer. Snares include heads on both the top as well as the bottom. Items called tension rods are used to hold the drums in place. The name snare comes from the fact that the bottom head features parallel, mounted strands that are referred to as snares. The snares are important to the operation of the drum because they work to help sound vibrate against the bottom of the head when the top of the head is struck. Cymbals - Some drum sets do not include cymbals, but those that do include them allow the drummer to branch out a little more musically than others who do not have them would be able to. The cymbals are able to add that extra little splash to the music being played. Many of sets include a ride cymbal, a crash cymbal, and a pair of hi-hats. These cymbals can be altered and loosened and tightened to change the sound produced from them.
